Something many people don’t understand about dentistry is that by the time a patient experiences pain, the problem has probably already progressed significantly. Issues such as cavities take a long time to become truly painful. That means that if you “wait for a problem” to come in for a check-up, you are essentially allowing problems to reach their most damaging, expensive stage!
While proper oral hygiene techniques can remove the majority of plaque and bacteria that builds up on your teeth, the vast majority of people will still miss some areas. Our professional dental hygienists can help remove tartar and plaque that may have built up beneath your gums and around your teeth, reduce your risk of cavities, periodontal disease, and tooth decay.
We’ve all been there at one point or another. Someone trips on the edge of the pool, falls while sprinting across the driveway, or gets hit in the face during a sports practice—and suddenly, someone is missing a tooth. When that happens, make sure to call Salisbury Friendly Dentistry as quickly as possible. Our Salisbury NC emergency dentist office is here to help, any time of day or night.
Cavities are very common. In fact, you might be surprised to learn that some of our own dental staff members have had cavities! The good news is that cavities are also preventable. Brushing and flossing twice a day, avoiding sugary sodas, and scheduling regular dental check-ups should help stop cavities before they start.
When the surface of a tooth is damaged, a crown can be placed over the remaining tooth structure in order to protect it and restore its strength. Unlike other restorative dental options which must be periodically removed from the mouth, crowns are permanently attached to the teeth. This makes them a very effective solution for restoring your ability to bite and chew.
We’ve all seen the popular cartoon gaffe wherein an elderly person’s teeth fall into their food, or pop out when they laugh or shout. While these depictions are fine for jokes on T.V., they tend to mislead the public about what modern dentures are and can do. The truth is that today’s dentures are much more discreet and much more stable than those that existed in the past.
When a tooth is causing you pain, we will do everything in our power to save it, whether via a crown or other dental procedure. However, if the nerve of your tooth is infected, or if you are still experiencing pain after another dental treatment, you may need a root canal. While no one wants to get a root canal treatment, it is sometimes the only way to eliminate your infection and stop your pain. Learn more about our root canal treatment procedure below.
Professional, in-office teeth whitening is the most popular cosmetic dental procedure in the world today. The Salisbury Family Dentistry professional whitening service takes place under carefully monitored conditions which allow for the safe, controlled, pain-free use of a whitening concentrated gel – yielding results that are visible immediately.
As dental professionals, our first priority will always be to help restore, save and repair your natural teeth. However, sometimes a tooth extraction is unavoidable. If it is the case that a tooth cannot be saved, we will do everything in our power to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
If you are a first-time patient, you may be apprehensive about your upcoming appointment. No need to worry—you’ll find that our appointments typically follow the process below.
First, you will be greeted by our friendly front office staff members, and asked to complete any necessary paperwork. We recommend arriving at least 20 minutes early if you have not completed paperwork at home. (Download first-time patient paperwork below.)
Next, one of our skilled dental hygienists or assistants will guide you into the X-ray room. We will take a few dental X-rays in order to identify any problems with your teeth that are invisible to the naked eye.
Once your X-rays are completed, your dental hygienist or assistant will ask you about the reasons for your visit, any dental concerns you may have, and any goals you may have regarding your oral health. He or she will also review your health and dental history.
If your visit is for a routine cleaning and checkup, your hygienist clean your teeth, and one of our Salisbury dentists will inspect them for any signs of damage or decay.
If you are visiting to learn more about cosmetic or restorative dentistry options, you will meet with one of our dentists to discuss your options and outline a treatment plan.
Please fill this out and bring to your appointment.
