Nitrous Oxide For Dental Sedation

Also called laughing gas, nitrous oxide is a colorless, odorless gas that is used to create a calm, relaxed experience. In dentistry, it is often used to help patients who feel anxious or have trouble sitting still. It takes effect immediately and the patient remains awake throughout the treatment.
Uses Of Nitrous Sedation In Dentistry

- Helping young children sit still – Young children often have trouble staying still for dental appointments. When necessary for treatments such as dental fillings, nitrous oxide can help relax children and ease fidgeting.
- Treating patients who need significant work – Even adults have trouble sitting for long periods of time. When a treatment or procedure may take a significant period of time, laughing gas may be recommended to minimize excess movement
Safe Sedation Dentistry
Nitrous oxide is a very safe option for sedation dentistry. The patient’s medical history is thoroughly reviewed to ensure there are no allergies or diseases that could cause adverse reactions. If used, the medication is closely monitored and controlled by the dental team throughout the procedure.
Nitrous oxide takes effect immediately. It does not cause drowsiness so the patient remains awake and can communicate with the dentist. The patient breathes in a combination of oxygen and nitrous oxide through a mask.
Once the treatment is over, the medication is stopped and the effects cease immediately without any lasting effects. As the medication is turned off, the patient breathes in only oxygen to clear the lungs. Since there are no side effects or lingering reactions, patients can drive themselves home and resume normal activities after the appointment.

Let me tell you guys, the staff here are absolutely welcoming and they make you feel super comfortable. During my visit, the ladies at the front desk were very welcoming. My hygienist gave me confident to a great experience. And of course, Dr. Ray D. is an awesome individual that only wants what’s best for his clients.

All staff encountered were professional, courteous, listened to the patient, offered quality care, affordable, and knowledgeable. Review updated 6/13/23 I was terrified of the Dentist since my teen years and have never been back to the dentist for well over a decade. The Doctor and staff COMPLETELY restored my faith in dentistry. From cracking jokes to ease and cool my nerves during cleaning and pre surgery, holding my hand during surgery and offering me items to hold and distract from the injection (which was painless!!!). This practice and the team are truly something special! The medical field makes patients feel like a number but not here! The Dr and staff treat you like family while giving quality care!
