Safe Sedation Dentistry

Nitrous oxide takes effect immediately. It does not cause drowsiness so the patient remains awake and can communicate with the dentist. The patient breathes in a combination of oxygen and nitrous oxide through a mask.
Once the treatment is over, the medication is stopped and the effects cease immediately without any lasting effects. As the medication is turned off, the patient breathes in only oxygen to clear the lungs.
